Jalen Rose
Director of African Diaspora Initiatives
Jalen e’Lan Rose is an artist, educator, and researcher of historical context in relationship to movement practices. As a Baltimore native, Rose grew up exposed to a wide variety of expressive arts, including theatre and music. While receiving a Bachelor of Science in Dance at Drexel University, she was introduced to dance/movement therapy and the ways it could be used in tandem with arts education. This led her to 10 years of experience in arts education and arts administration, fostering students' growth through self-expression. As a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park, Ms.Rose is researching the sociopolitical context that frames African American culture and expression. This research is bolstered by international workshops exploring the African Diaspora in countries such as Haiti, Liberia, and the Dominican Republic.
